What is wood carving?

Wood carving is a traditional craft in which wood is given form, depth and expression using carving irons. Through careful work, ornaments, figures and decorative details emerge directly from the material. Carving irons come in many different profiles and radii, making it possible to create both soft curves, sharp lines and fine details. The choice of iron governs the expression of the work and gives the carver great freedom to follow the form and character of the wood.

The craft builds on knowledge passed down through generations, yet it is very much alive today. Every piece is made by hand, with respect for the wood's structure and a feel for form, function and detail.
